What Ages Your Face: Bad Habits & Treatment

What Ages Your Face?

No one wants an aged or tired-looking face, but for some, it may seem unavoidable. This begs the question: what ages your face? While there are treatment options to rejuvenate your appearance, there are also bad habits you should avoid and good habits you should embrace.

Bad Habits

Some of your daily habits could come at a cost. Here are some habits to avoid if you want to rewind time or stall the aging process.

Inflammatory foods: Inflammatory foods cause inflammation (obviously) which can later cause wrinkles. Instead of eating junk food, reach for something rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Avocados, salmon, and flaxseeds are all packed with healthy omega-3s.

Alcohol: Mostly everyone knows that alcohol makes us dehydrated. When our skin is dehydrated it loses its elasticity, which in turn creates more wrinkles. Monitor your alcohol intake if you want to avoid dry and dehydrated skin.

Air pollution: If you live in a heavily polluted area, you need to cleanse your skin daily. Dirt can get trapped in your pores without you even knowing it. Exfoliate 2-3 times a week and wash your skin daily.

Smoking: Not only is smoking not good for your lungs, but it also narrows your blood vessels which hinders your blood circulation. This can take a toll on the appearance of your skin. Additionally, smoking is known to cause wrinkles around the lips and mouth, too.

Good Habits

Now that you know what NOT to do, here are some good habits to embrace and add to your daily routine:

  • Wear sunscreen to avoid wrinkles and sunspots
  • Moisturize daily
  • Drink enough water
  • Do not pick or pop blemishes on your face
  • Avoid scrunching your face/furrowing your eyebrows

What ages your face: Treatment Options

Ultherapy: Ultherapy is a non-invasive surgery that requires no downtime because it requires ultrasound technology. Ultherapy lifts and improves the skin while also reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Kybella: Kybella is a non-surgical injection used to treat unwanted, stubborn fat under the chin. Because Kybella destroys the fat cells, the results are permanent.
