The New Year is approaching, and what better time to start thinking about your resolutions for 2017. While many people concentrate on having a healthy body, many neglect their skin. The state of your skin can affect your overall outlook and can affect your health as well. Your body’s first line of defense is having healthy, moisturized skin. Skin acts as a defensive barrier to keep out viruses, bacteria, and other harsh elements. It is vital that you take care of your skin, so make 2017 the year you take better care of yourself and do everything possible to have healthy, vibrant skin.

1. Exercise
Exercising regularly not only helps your body, but it can help improve cell turnover and collagen production as well. Ever notice how you get that rosy glow after you work out? This is because exercising allows for improved blood flow, which is extremely beneficial for the skin. This means oxygen and nutrients are more likely to reach your skin, nourishing your skin cells.
2. Keep Your Makeup Brushes Clean
If you aren’t in the habit of regularly washing your makeup brushes, this is a resolution you must add to your list. While many people are guilty of doing this (and it’s OK!), but dirty makeup brushes collect bacteria and dirt. You don’t want to transfer dirt and bacteria to your pores because it can cause inflammation and unsightly breakouts.
3. Develop a Skin Care Routine
Keeping your skin healthy means keeping it clean and moisturized, so experiment and come up with a simple skin care regime that you can incorporate into your daily routine. Keeping your skin clean and properly moisturized is key, as well as alternating exfoliation. Make sure you cleanse in the morning and at night, and try to keep your routine as consistent as possible.
4. Wash Your Pillowcases
Bacteria, dirt and oil build up on your pillowcase from your skin, hair, and from the environment. If your pillowcase is not regularly cleaned, the accumulated oil, dirt, and bacteria will transfer to your skin as you sleep at night. This can cause clogged pores, unwanted breakouts, and skin blemishes. You should change out your pillowcases twice a week, or if you only have one pillowcase, wash it regularly (every 2 to 3 days).
5. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
Eating healthy and staying hydrated is one of the most important resolutions you can make, as it will positively affect your whole body, not just your skin. Drinking water can do wonders for your skin, as it will keep it looking healthy and radiant. Also, remember you are what you eat! If you don’t eat nutritious, whole foods you can’t expect your skin to look its best. If you eat well, it this will positively reflect through your skin.
